Motorcycle Accidents
According to the NY Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), in 2009, there were 5,150 motorcycle accidents. Of those, 152 resulted in fatalities. Of those motorcycle fatalities, 146 motorcycle operators were killed. If you ride a motorcycle, you are far more vulnerable to sustaining personal injury—or even death—than anyone else involved. Fact is, there is nothing between you and another vehicle beyond your helmet and protective gear.
First and foremost, we urge you to exercise safety and caution when operating a motorcycle. However, you could be doing everything right and still be the victim of a motorcycle accident personal injury. Should that occur, here are some things to consider:
- Before you ride, make sure you have complete insurance coverage on your bike, most important, personal injury protection or no-fault benefits This will cover your medical expenses and wages in the event your are injured in an accident.
- Seek immediate medical care and follow through with the advice of your doctors.
- Try to preserve your motorcycle for post accident inspection.
- Hire an attorney immediately so he can document the scene, the damage to the motorcycle, and any skid marks that may exist.
